ACM Chapter Bandung Hosts First Gathering of 2025: Strengthening Collaboration and Strategic Planning

Bandung, March 13, 2025 – The ACM Chapter Bandung successfully held its first Member Gathering of 2025 at the Faculty Lounge, STEI ITB, Achmad Bakrie Building, Labtek VIII, serving as a platform to evaluate past programs and develop strategies for the future. The event brought together academics and professionals from various institutions, fostering discussions to enhance ACM Chapter Bandung’s role in academia and technology.

Building a Strong Scientific Community

ACM Chapter Bandung is part of the global Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) network, officially established on March 11, 2024, with a vision to develop an academic and professional community focused on computing, software engineering, and artificial intelligence innovation. Currently, the chapter has 19 registered members, with 9 actively engaged in ACM membership.

In his opening remarks, ACM Chapter Bandung Chair Prof. Andriyan Bayu Suksmono, M.T., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of this community as a scientific collaboration platform. “ACM Chapter Bandung serves as a space for academics and professionals to share knowledge, conduct joint research, and drive impactful innovation for society,” he stated.

The meeting also focused on evaluating activities held throughout 2024. Several programs have been successfully executed and documented on the official ACM Chapter Bandung website: https://bandung.hosting.acm.org. However, there were challenges in securing funding for a conference proposal submitted to ACM International, as it did not fully meet ACM’s strict standards.

“We invited a Distinguished Speaker from ACM Australia, but several technical aspects of the proposal need improvement, including fundraising mechanisms, budget allocation, and event execution strategies that align with ACM requirements,” noted one of the discussion participants.

Strategic Plans for 2025

Looking forward to 2025, ACM Chapter Bandung has outlined several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the community and enhancing its contributions to academia and industry. These include:

Election of New Board Members

  • The election will be conducted online in the near future.
  • If no new candidates step forward, the current board may be extended, with a maximum term limit of two years.

Annual Report 2024

  • The current board will compile a 2024 Annual Report as a reference for evaluating and improving organizational performance.

Increasing Active Membership

  • Of the 19 registered members, only 9 are active ACM members.
  • Efforts will be made to increase active participation to strengthen the chapter and improve its prospects for ACM International support.

Organizing Seminars, Symposiums, and Conferences

  • ACM Chapter Bandung will host a series of academic events adhering to ACM standards.
  • The previously rejected conference proposal will be revised and resubmitted for ACM International endorsement.

Community Engagement Initiatives

  • ACM Chapter Bandung plans to launch community engagement programs to extend its impact beyond academic circles.

Opportunities for Collaboration and New Initiatives

  • Rahmat Mulyawan will host guest academics from Groningen.

✅ Proposal to Establish ACM Student Chapter Bandung

  • A proposal to form an ACM Student Chapter Bandung was discussed, aiming to expand the chapter’s reach and engage more students in computing and software engineering.
