ACM Bandung Chapter Supports Focus Group Discussion on Privacy-Preserving Intelligent Video Surveillance Systems
ACM Bandung Chapter, in collaboration with the Center for Information and Communication Technology Research of Institut Teknologi Bandung, will hold a Focus Group Discussion entitled “Privacy-Preserving Intelligent Video Surveillance System Innovation for Urban Development and Public Safety in Indonesia.” This event reflects ACM Bandung Chapter’s commitment to fostering scientific discussion, professional collaboration, and responsible innovation in computing technologies that address real-world societal challenges.
The Focus Group Discussion will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB, at the Auditorium of the CRiMSE Building, 8th Floor, ITB. The forum will bring together experts from academia and government to discuss the development of intelligent video surveillance systems that can support urban development and public safety while ensuring privacy protection, data security, and responsible technology governance.
The advancement of artificial intelligence, computer vision, and intelligent surveillance technologies has created new opportunities for improving urban management and public safety. These technologies can support public space monitoring, traffic management, emergency response, incident detection, and data-driven decision-making. However, their implementation also raises important concerns related to individual privacy, ethical data use, information security, transparency, and accountability.
Through this discussion, ACM Bandung Chapter aims to provide a multidisciplinary platform for exchanging ideas on how intelligent video surveillance systems can be designed, developed, and deployed in a secure, ethical, and socially responsible manner. The event is expected to encourage constructive dialogue among researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and professional communities on the future direction of privacy-preserving computing and intelligent public safety systems in Indonesia.
The event will feature distinguished speakers, including Prof. Ir. Ridwan Sutriadi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. from SAPPK ITB, Ir. Budi Rahardjo, M.Sc., Ph.D. from STEI ITB, Dr. Purnomo Yustianto, S.T., M.T. from the Provincial Government of West Java, and Prof. Dr. Ing. Ir. Suhardi, M.T. from STEI ITB. Their expertise is expected to enrich the discussion from various perspectives, including urban and regional planning, information security, public policy, and intelligent system development.
The event will open with remarks by Prof. Andriyan Bayu Suksmono, M.T., Ph.D., Chair of the ACM Bandung Chapter, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Y. Bandung, S.T., M.T., Head of PPTIK ITB. Irma Amelia Dewi, S.Kom., M.T., will serve as the moderator for this event.
ACM Bandung Chapter hopes that this event will strengthen the role of the computing community in addressing current technological and societal challenges. In particular, the forum is expected to promote research collaboration and innovation in intelligent systems, privacy-preserving computing, public safety technology, and urban informatics. It also aims to support the development of technological solutions that are not only advanced in capability but also aligned with ethical principles and public interest.
